On Daily Routines, we profile successful leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, executives and athletes to explore the routines, schedules, habits and typical day in their life.
In just over 10 years into her media-socialite career, Kim Kardashian has appeared in and executive produced 18 seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, as well as its multiple spinoffs; launched a mobile app game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which grossed $1.6 million in the first five days; and launched her own business, KKW Beauty, among many, many other ventures.
Forbes estimates her net worth to be over $900 million. Oh, and she’s also studying to become a lawyer, starting the pursuit of her longtime passion in criminal justice reform. “Not bad for a girl with no talent,” as Kardashian said in her interview with Janet Mock.
You can say a lot of things about me, but you cannot say I don’t work hard. I don’t sing. I don’t dance. I don’t act. But I am not lazy.Kim Kardashian West | Interview Magazine
As a wife, mother of four children, founder of multiple businesses, and now law student, Kardashian’s daily routine looks a lot different now, compared to in 2015.
She described her typical morning routine in an interview with Poosh, a lifestyle website founded by her sister, Kourtney, “On a general day, I wake up at 5:45 a.m. for my workout at 6 a.m. I’ll pick out my workout clothes the night before,” she said. “I keep it basic and pretty much wear the same thing all the time, and then I work out for about an hour.”
For her workout, Kardashian trains with former bodybuilder, Melissa Alcantara. The pair work together six days a week; three days focused on shoulders, arms and chest & back, and the other three days dedicated to lower body exercises. Alcantara also throws in cardio — mixing between high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and low intensity walks.
“She loves and hates leg days,” Alcantara said in an interview with People. “But she’s committed! She knows what it takes, but it’s also really grueling. It’s heavy, it’s killer, but she’ll be like, ‘Alright, let’s do it!’ She’s a workhorse.”
Alcantara also works with Kardashian’s team of personal chefs on her nutrition. People magazine featured an example meal plan: “A typical day might feature Alcantara’s blueberry oatmeal pancakes for breakfast (“Kim loves them!”); chicken, sweet potatoes and veggies for lunch; and fish and veggies for dinner. “Kim told me the other day, ‘This is the most vegetables I’ve ever eaten!’”
While filming for Keeping Up with the Kardashians takes up the majority of her time during the year, there are a few months off between seasons. Speaking to Mock, Kardashian described a typical day in her life without the presence of 24/7 cameras:
On a typical day, without cameras, I wake up early, like six in the morning. I try to work out before the kids get up, and then I have breakfast with them and my husband. I try to make sure we have set meals at home, to keep everything as normal as possible. And then I get to work. If you saw the room I’m in right now—my office—I have mood boards of so many different things in front of me; maybe 15 perfume samples sitting on my table. And then for our kids’ line, I have maybe 200 samples of bathing suit fabrics that I have to go through. I’ll usually have wardrobe fittings for myself. Then I might have—and I’m not joking—300 makeup products to go through and consider for a future project. In between, I’m taking my son to a music class and my daughter to a horseback riding class.KIM KARDASHIAN WEST | INTERVIEW MAGAZINE
Before her aspiring law career days, Kardashian usually headed off to bed early, but with a looming bar exam in 2022, she needs to dedicate any spare moment she has to her studies. A 2019 Vogue profile recounted one of her study sessions with attorney Jessica Jackson, co-founder of #cut50, a national bipartisan advocacy group focused on criminal-justice reform.
“Halfway through dessert, Kim’s two mentor lawyers, Jessica Jackson (with a half-asleep baby draped over her shoulder) and Erin Haney, show up. The three of them are scheduled to study for four hours this afternoon, in an office conference room not far from here—so that Kim does not have to travel every week to San Francisco, as she has been doing since July, to log her required eighteen hours of weekly supervised study.”
In a perfect world, I love to go to bed early, but because I’ve been studying for law school, I spend my nights reading. The day usually consists of me going into the law office a few times a week, and then I film our show. Most nights I’m done after dinner, and I get the kids ready for bed and read books and put them to sleep. Then it’s back to studying for me until about 11 p.m.Kim Kardashian West on How She Manages It All | Poosh
