Alexandra Peek is the Chief Marketing Officer at Bondi Sands, where she oversees the brand, product development, digital, social and design teams.
In the current climate, a lot of Zoom meetings! It is really important I stay connected with my team so every day is filled with various meetings and staff catch ups.
Today, for example:
- kicked off with a team meeting reviewing plans for upcoming new product launches and campaigns
- reviewing and providing feedback on design assets
- setting key milestones for big projects and delegating tasks
- brainstorming brand copy for a new product launch
- connecting with our Head of Innovation for status updates on new projects
- calls with both business owners/directors
- meeting with our Chief of People to discuss applicants we have for current roles in market
- end of day catch up with our Global Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator to review our budget and setting our plan for tomorrow!
Eva Ross, Chief Marketing & Customer Officer at Sendle
Eva Ross is the Chief Marketing & Customer Officer at Sendle, a shipping service designed for small businesses, and Australia’s first 100% carbon neutral shipping service.
Sendle’s USA team is up earlier than I am, so I often bring the team with me (virtually anyway) on my morning walk by the coast. Then I make a coffee and check-in with the Sydney and Manila teams on Slack – everyone sends a daily update so we’re all staying connected.
On Wednesdays, we have our mid-week meal club – recently my colleague got a new puppy so our lunchtime was dominated by his cute antics.
My job involves a lot of context switching from board meetings, budgeting and strategy discussions, to designing marketing plans, reviewing comms and reading customer feedback.
One minute I’ll be deep in a spreadsheet only to join my next meeting and find the Manila team in full flow in a Zoomba (Zumba on Zoom) session. All in all, working remotely is revealing many hidden talents at Sendle!
Thomas Paule, Chief Digital, Technology & Marketing Officer at Findex
Thomas Paule is the Chief Digital, Technology & Marketing Officer at Findex, Australia’s largest privately owned financial advisory and accountancy firm.
My average day involves swapping hats between the different areas I look after alongside a series of management responsibilities. Generally, I wake up, grab a coffee and head to my desk, and then a day of meetings with my divisional leaders begins.
My role allows me to empower my key leaders whereby we agree on the strategy and direction, but it’s important they have the space and autonomy to decide on how we get there.
I believe that by managing an outcome, you get the best out of the people around you, and they also get an opportunity to shape the ideas and strategies into their own as well.
It’s important for me to keep pace with what’s happening in the market as well, so I try to allocate some time most days to reading widely and market research.
Amanda Jones, Chief Marketing Officer at Mirus Australia
Amanda Jones is the Chief Marketing Officer at Mirus Australia, a company which works on ensuring the aged care sector remains financially sustainable and focuses on the integration of people and technology.
Every workday starts with coffee. This is non-negotiable.
I ensure that my team has all arrived safely and everyone is smiling! I check my priority list for the day and a quick glance at emails to ensure meetings have not changed for the day or if any communication has arrived overnight from our European team.
We have standard meetings throughout the working week and month based around our operational goals and our client’s needs.
My day-to-day activities primarily consist of ensuring my direct team and indirect have what they need to deliver our products and services, check to see if or when they need help on a project and to answer any questions they may have.
My dominant leadership style is based on a transformational style, that is, understand and support the co-founder’s strategy and creating an environment where people can do their best work.
My day is indispersed with client and internal meetings, phone calls and engaging with my online community across many channels. I also like to walk, stretch and purchase coffee and hydrate with water.
Cat Prestipino, Chief Marketing Officer at Employment Hero
Cat Prestipino is the Chief Marketing Officer at Employment Hero, an Australian HR software company which provides employers and employees an all-in-one HR, payroll and benefits platform.
It’s such a cliché but no two days are the same!
Employment Hero runs Rockefeller Habits so my day kicks off with our whole company 8:58 where we look at how we’re tracking to our quarterly targets. Next, it’s a quick WIP with my team for the day with a cup a coffee and then, it could be anything!
It could be drafting a blog post, working on our PR strategy or an event, creating a landing page for a new campaign, reviewing campaign performance from the last week, working with our product team on a new go-to-market strategy, coaching and mentoring with my team, business strategy with the leadership…
But this is why I love the startup and technology space! I’d get bored if I had to come in and have the exact same day every single day.
Nicky Whichelow, Chief Marketing Officer of Foundation Holdings
Nicky Whichelow is the Chief Marketing Officer of Foundation Holdings, which encompasses The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers, Foundation Education (RTOs), Australian College of Physical Education and The Institute of Emotionally Focused Therapy (Higher Education).
My typical day starts around 4:30am (as the dog usually needs a wee) and after the first coffee and a trip to the gym I’m back at the home desk, planning the day and mapping out non negotiables for the day including saying no to meetings that don’t really need me there.
Managing a large team means having visible dashboards and really clear expectations on KPIs and Targets, so much of the planning is checking and challenging progress as well as coaching where needed.
Once the day is locked in, I listen to a podcast on the way into work and undertake the first “team huddle” where we discuss numbers and any rectification for the day.
The rest of the day is spent moving projects along and being available for whatever might crop up and something usually does. I tend to work on a philosophy of being no more than 80% fully occupied otherwise you might miss a great opportunity as you are just too busy”.
It also means on the days that I need to put in 150% I’m not burnt out and resentful at always having to operate at that level.
