Balancing the Grind with Dani Carr, Co-Founder of Infinite Cycle

1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role? 

I was semi-professional tennis playing in Germany, then I came back to Sydney to start my PT business. This wasn’t enough to fulfill me though, so I ended up opening Anytime Fitness gyms across Sydney and then ventured out into my own franchising business with Infinite Cycle.

2) What does a day in life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday? 

I’m up at 4:30am to walk my dogs Boston and Ralph. I still then train my longest standing PT clients in the morning, it’s really important to me to maintain this side of my business as it’s what started the career path I am on today. Then rounds of my gyms, a quick tennis session at lunch, then off to Infinite Cycle to teach a class in the evening. 

3) Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine? 

Look, everyone knows they can contact me basically at any time, I tend to float between my businesses most days, and recently making sure I make time for an hour of tennis a day helps with a healthy balance. Apart from physically being in front of clients for PT sessions and classes, I can work pretty remotely throughout my day.

4) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal? 

Making sure I enjoy my days, whether it’s a work heavy day or an afternoon with my family, every day has to be enjoyed. Make sure you have people around you who add to your life, not complicate it. Cut out the BS and surround yourself with people that lift you.

5) In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life? 

I’ve taken up the regular routine of playing tennis daily. I’m not quite as fast or agile as I was as a teen, but it is a massive outlet for me from my day-to-day work.

6) Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend? 

Crime Junkie podcast, my wife got me into it and it’s addictive! Plus, it’s one moment in my life that I am not thinking about one of the gyms.

7) Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without? 

Coinspot. I’m addicted to trading crypto! 

8) If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

Elon Musk, that guy has his shit together. 

9) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

Aim for a job you are passionate about. Especially if it’s fitness, you can’t wake up at 4:30am every morning if you don’t love what you do. Make sure you set time aside for family and friends. I go to breakfast every Saturday with my wife and our friends, I make time for my hobbies, and I force myself to have down time. Otherwise you become a dick, and no one wants to work for a dick.
