1. To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role?

I am the co-founder and owner of one of Australia’s leading dermatology practices and Sydney’s largest specialist skin & laser clinic, Northern Sydney Dermatology. We opened in 2008 and currently have 10 dermatologists in our team. My day to day role is practicing dermatology and consulting/treating clients.

2. What does a day in the life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

I wake up at 5:45am and usually cycle or go for a run with a couple of girlfriends. I will get home about 7 and get the kids ready for school, then it’s off to work by 8am and I will usually cycle there. I have meetings until 8-9am and then begin my daily bookings.

I usually have back to back appointments from 8:30-4:30 and these will include consultations with patients and treatments using lasers such as Fraxel and Thermage where needed. When I get home and answer emails and then try to catch up with family and friends for dinner.

3. Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine?

Essentially being a dermatologist involves careful examination of the skin, it is best done in person. We introduced teleconferencing during COVID, but it is more appropriate to consult in clinic and in person to ensure you build a strong relationship with the client and can examine their skin perfectly.

4. What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?

It is a continual evolving goal that I work on all the time, I believe we will never arrive there, and we consistently work towards. I ensure I am adjusting my balance depending on the age of my children and the current state of my business. I aim to be an overall well-balanced person.

5. In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life?

I make it a mission every year to do something that challenges me and stretches me as a person. Whether that be a marathon or a cycling event.

This year I have challenged myself to the 75 hard program, it basically is a 75 day challenge to exercise twice a day, eat strictly and read 10 pages of self-development each day. It has allowed me to develop discipline and work towards my mental strength. I truly believe ‘everything takes work’

6. Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend?

  • I’ve been enjoying an app called Masterclass – a whole lot of classes hosted by world leaders and a variety of classes available such as cooking with Gordon Ramsey and photography classes, etc.
  • Zwift app.
  • Avid podcast listener – Daily ‘World Today’ ‘Rich Role Podcast’ ‘Oprah’.

7. Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without?

  • My road bike is a must.
  • Fraxel & Thermage treatments – twice a year! Cannot live without.

8. If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

I would have to say Michelle Obama – she sends such positive message and elevates women and humanity. I have respect for anyone that believes in the greater good.

9. Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

You never arrive – you will always be working on it. It’s a forever task.
