1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role?

For over 20 years I was joint owner of one of Australia’s most recognised homewares brands – MyHouse. My role was head of buying, product development and planning with the business.

Four years ago, I made the decision to create a brand and business inspired by so many customers who used to ask, “what is the best pillow for me.” After so many years in the industry. I was amazed that there was still not a pillow in the market that has been designed to suit every sleeping position and height preference.

I ultimately wanted to develop a product that took the guesswork out of pillow-shopping so that whether you need a go-to pillow for a guest room or a solution to your family’s various comfort preferences, there is a single pillow you can now rely on to be comfortable for everyone.

I wanted to place comfort and quality back into the hands of the consumer, and so the Etienne Home Brand was born and launched in 2020.

2) What does a day in the life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

I like keeping fit and healthy, so I generally start each day by going to the gym. Then I will spend time reviewing customer data and daily sales performance to ensure each order is dispatched efficiently and with care.

The rest of my day is allocated to reviewing global and consumer trends, considering future category expansion plans and product development opportunities which underpin our company goal of improving comfort when going to bed.

3) Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine?

Yes, I can work from home easily and running my own business does offer me this flexibility. Plus, there is the added benefit of being able to be at home and spend more time with my family, especially my twin daughters.

4) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?

Maintaining a balance is important to me – I like to ensure I make time across a busy workday to keep fit and healthy and ensure time is available to spend with both family and friends.

5) In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life?

Yes, I have committed (and maintained) taking better care of myself – more exercise and better eating habits.

6) Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend?

I am really enjoying a podcast called Renegades: Born in the USA at the moment. It is a series of conversations between two iconic American figures Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama. They talk about their lives, music, and enduring love of America. I love it!

7) Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without?

I must admit, my big TV at home is a game-changer for me, especially in current COVID times! It is perfect for watching sports and movies.

8) If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

It would have to be Richard Branson.

9) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life, or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

Always make time for yourself! I recommend maintaining exercise as part of your routine and improving your health and overall well-being. Family is also incredibly important to me, so I always prioritise this above anything else.
